There was a clear understanding amongst staff as to roles and responsibilities, and the staffing structure in place. All staff that we spoke with were positive about their experiences of working at the service. There was a comprehensive quality assurance system in place which ensured all aspects of the service were regularly audited. This helped to ensure oversight of the care being delivered and drive improvements where needed. Evidence provided regarding processes demonstrated a strong learning culture at the service. All staff told us they were aware of any ‘lessons learnt’ and outcomes of any investigations were routinely shared with them.

Governance, management and sustainability

There was a clear staffing structure at the service, with defined roles and responsibilities. The registered manager completed audits and checks at the service which were used to drive improvements at the service and maintain good practice. There were robust arrangements in place for the availability of data and information. The registered manager maintained accurate records which they were able to provide to us with ease during the assessment. Information was shared as needed with other agencies. This included statutory notifications as required by CQC.

Staff understood their role and responsibilities and told us that the registered manager took action to share the vision and values of the service. All staff commented that the management team were dedicated in ensuring they considered staff wellbeing and work life balance, which was important to them. One staff member said, “I feel listened to. I get opportunity to meet with people. They are really flexible. If you work as good team, you will all get on really well.” Another staff member said, “Yes, I feel listened to, we have the support we need. And I feel it is managed well.”

Learning, improvement and innovation

There were strong systems in place to identify improvements, when required, and ensure action was taken. When adverse events had happened at the service, such as accidents or incidents, thorough investigations were completed. Outcomes were shared with all staff members and relevant partners, such as people and their relatives. The registered manager encouraged reflection and improvement at the service, which was evident through the systems and processes they shared with us as part of this assessment.

Staff shared that they are involved in learning and improvements in the service. One staff member said, “I will attend the meetings held. They share what has gone well and things that need we need to improve.” Another staff member said, “I really do feel supported by them (leaders), they do listen if I bring up something. We had a staff meeting, safeguarding’s that has been raised were discussed. We discuss anything. We have supervisions every 3 months. In the team we will generally have handovers and discuss what we need to change.” One professional described how they have worked with the home to develop the staff skill by cross working.
