During a routine inspection
The people we spoke with confirmed that they were asked at every visit about any medical conditions and one person said, "they always ask if I am taking any medication". The dentist spoken with told us that patients were given advice on lifestyle choices that affected their oral health such as smoking and alcohol consumption as well as advice about measures to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. A treatment plan was developed for each patient based on their individual needs and the treatment they had opted for.
The practice was clean at the time of our visit and the patients we spoke with said that the service was always clean when they attended an appointment. The satisfaction surveys we saw also referred to a high standard of cleanliness. There were effective systems in place to minimise the risk of infection to patients and staff.
Staff received support to ensure they had the skills and knowledge to meet the needs of patients such as training about how to deal with medical emergencies, safeguarding children and infection control.
There was an effective complaints management system in place.
