Our view of the service
Gwendolen Road is a care home for up to 14 people. At the time of our assessment there were 13 people using the service. Assessment activity commenced on 5 August 2024 and ended on 5 October 2024. We visited the service on 5 August 2024, and 5, 6 and 9 September 2024. Systems and processes, supported by the provider’s policies and procedures promoted and supported a safe, supportive environment. Improvements in the quality and detail within people’s risk assessments and care plans promoted people’s safety and reflected a commitment to providing a person centred approach to care. Staff monitored people’s health and wellbeing, and managed their medicine safely. Staff underwent pre-employment checks as part of their recruitment, and received ongoing support, including training and supervision. Staff were knowledgeable about people’s needs, and were able to communicate with them in their preferred language and style. Information was available in a range of formats. However, information was not always available in alternative languages, this was an area the registered manager acknowledged could be improved. Changes to the management team had supported the service to have an open, positive and inclusive culture. Processes and systems to monitor the quality and safety of the service had improved, which had brought about improvements. The provider and registered manager responded and acted upon the minor environmental concerns noted during the assessment. Partnership working with key stakeholders, including health and social care professionals had improved. We received positive feedback from staff and key stakeholders. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, Right care, Right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
