Date of assessment 21 May to 5 June 2024. Daleside Nursing Home is a care home registered to provide personal and nursing care for a maximum of 43 people. At the time of our assessment 29 people were living at the home. Most of the people who lived at the service were older people, including people living with dementia. We received information which indicated people were not receiving safe care. We assessed a total of 21 quality statements from the safe, caring, responsive and well-led key questions and found areas of concern. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the key question ratings from the last inspection. Our overall rating has changed from good to requires improvement. The service was not safe. We identified multiple failings with regards to medicines and risk management. Some staff had not been safely recruited. Areas of the service were unclean and needed further refurbishment. There was a lack of awareness with regards to the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and who in the service was subject to deprivation of liberty safeguards. The staff were not always caring. People were not always treated with dignity or as individuals. Systems were in place to listen and respond to people. However, some family members did not feel fully listened to or that their concerns were being addressed. The service was not always well led. Governance systems had not been effective in identifying the concerns we identified through this assessment. We did observe staff treated people with kindness and staff who knew people well. We saw visitors freely come and go from the service without restriction. Staff did receive training for their role and felt confident any concerns raised about people to the management team would be acted upon and taken seriously. We found 5 breaches of the legal regulations in relation to consent to care, safe recruitment, dignity and respect, safe care and treatment and governance.
