During a routine inspection

Our visit to Bluebird Care (Brighton and Hove) was facilitated by the director and the care manager. We viewed care records and spoke with people who use the service and their relatives. People we spoke with told us they were happy with the care they received and that they had been actively involved in planning their care. One person who used the service told us "I am full of admiration for the carers. They are very good. I worked with them on my care plan and I've been able to change things as needed." A relative told us "the care is fine. As much as possible we have the same carer consistently. We're very happy."

We saw that the service had a number of systems in place to support the recruitment of appropriate workers and we viewed recruitment processes that ensured relevant checks were carried out prior to recruitment. We viewed the personnel files of four care workers and saw that appropriate induction and training plans were in place. One staff member told us "I had a good four day induction when I started. Managers are very supportive and we have the opportunity to do extra training." Another care worker told us "I've had fantastic support."

We observed care being delivered by workers who understood the care needs of people requiring support in their own homes. We visited two people who use the service in their homes and we spoke with a further two people by telephone. We spoke with three relatives and five care staff.

During a routine inspection

At the time of our visit there was no registered manager employed at Bluebird Care (Brighton & Hove). The organisation had informed us that the previous manager had left. However, the previous manager had not deregistered with CQC at the time of our visit, therefore their name still remains on any reports until such time that this information is received.

During our visit we spoke with four people who used the service or their relative, and four staff members; these were the director and three care workers.

We also took information from other sources to help us understand the views of people who used the service, which included a satisfaction survey and meeting minutes.

The people we spoke with told us they were happy with the care they received and with the staff team. One person who used the service told us "They [Bluebird Care (Brighton & Hove)] are great, really friendly and capable". Another person who used the service we spoke with told us "I'm always satisfied with what they do".

Staff we spoke with had a good understanding of the support needs of the people who used the service. One member of staff we spoke with told us "We do a good job and we look after each and every client".

During an inspection in response to concerns

We did not speak to people who use this agency however feedback from the Local Authority was positive. We saw from records that people are assessed by the agency prior to receiving a service from them and are involved in the planning of their care.
