We assessed 1 quality statement in the responsive key question and found areas of good practice. People were supported in a way that was respectful and placed them at the centre of their care. People were supported by staff who respected their choices, were responsive to their needs and care met their needs as an individual.

Person-centred Care

Score: 3

All the people and relatives spoken with consistently told the inspection team that the care was person-centred. One relative told us, “Staff respond immediately to any changes and their care is person-centred.” Another person said, “They are very responsive to my individual needs.”

Staff understood what person-centred practice was and were able to give the inspection team examples of this. Staff considered how to support people with decision-making, respecting their choices and preferences and how to respond to changes in the person’s care needs. One staff member said, “As an example it is important for people to be treated with dignity at all times, when providing personal care ask for permission to wash them. Reassure them when they are feeling low and talking to them instead of talking at them.”
