During a routine inspection
We spoke with seven people who used the service on the day of our visit. All were very complimentary about the practice and the staff that worked there. One person said, 'I am very happy here. The staff are polite and caring and it's easy to get an appointment. I have recommended it to my friends and family.'
We viewed six patient records and found that they contained an oral health assessment and details of treatments. A medical history form was used to record people's health issues and medication.
We found the surgery and the general areas of the practice to be clean and well maintained. When we looked at the processes for the cleaning and sterilisation of dental instruments we found that there were areas for improvement. This included recording maintenance checks for the equipment used, visual inspections of instruments that had been cleaned and the wearing of personal protective equipment.
People employed at the practice had received appropriate training. Staff we spoke with told us that they felt supported and were able to contribute ideas at team meetings.
The practice did not have a satisfactory system for assessing and monitoring the quality of services provided. No audits took place and people using the service were not asked for their views.
