During a routine inspection
Patients were protected against the risks of receiving inappropriate or unsafe care. We selected three patient records from the day list. The dentist was able to talk us through these records and evidence that patient care had been continually assessed and documented.
Staff we spoke with demonstrated an understanding of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. They were able to describe possible types of abuse such as physical abuse, emotional abuse and dental neglect. They told us that they were well placed to identify possible abuse.
There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. The provider had a dedicated room for decontaminating (or cleaning and sterilising) dental instruments, with designated "clean" and "dirty" areas.
The provider had accurate records to help identify and manage risks in relation to providing dental care. Patient notes we looked at indicated where a patient's medical condition (e.g. a penicillin allergy) might impact on their dental treatment.
