During an inspection looking at part of the service

As the main purpose of this inspection was to assess improvements made in relation to shortfalls identified during our previous inspection of 18 October 2012, we did not request information directly from people using the service on this occasion.

Overall we found that the provider had taken sufficient action to address the identified shortfalls in relation to its recruitment procedures and staff support.

During a routine inspection

Given the nature of this service we were not able to talk to people who had received patient transport services however we did speak with people who were responsible for commissioning Medexpress' service and received very positive feedback from them. One person told us, 'I would absolutely recommend the service; it's reliable, well organised and has never let us down. They are good with our patients and always arrive on time'. Another person reported, 'They always phone to confirm the time and are totally reliable. Staff have really good rapport with our residents; they always introduce themselves and treat them with dignity and respect. One of the staff was absolutely fantastic with a lady who was very confused'.

We found that the provider was compliant with three of the five outcomes we assessed and needed to make improvements in their recruitment procedures and also the formal support given to staff.
