During a routine inspection
From our observations people were enabled to make day to day decisions; for example what they ate and drank and how they spent their time. Staff took time to listen to people and respond to questions and queries. Staff had time to talk with people and interacted in a respectful way. We observed staff sensitively help to orientate people with the date and time.
A basic style of documentation was used for care planning. We saw one care plan that stated a person was able to walk with a frame, and needed one carer for assistance. When we visited this person they were being nursed in bed. This person had complex needs which included pressure area care, hydration and nutritional needs, none of which were mentioned in the care plan. The care plan had been reviewed in August 2012 but had not been updated since.
The home looked tired with many areas needing maintenance and redecoration.
