During a routine inspection
There were systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. We reviewed the infection prevention and decontamination policies and observed one of the dental nurses carrying out the decontamination of instruments used during surgery. The policies had been reviewed to ensure that they were up to date and the dental nurse completed the decontamination process in line with the recommended guidelines set by the Department of Health.
People told us that they found the practice to be clean and tidy and confirmed that the dentists and the dental nurses wore protective clothing when providing treatment. One person explained: 'They wear gloves and masks and they take your glasses and give you goggles to wear.'
We were told that the staff were well trained and records showed that the relevant training had taken place. This ensured that the staff were knowledgeable and experienced and worked in line with best practice.
