During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

At our inspection on 26 June 2013 we found the provider had planned to check in April 2013 that improvements in record keeping had been made, however the re audit had not taken place.

The provider sent us a report of the the record keeping re audit they had completed on 27 June 2013.

During a routine inspection

People using the service we spoke with were very happy with the care and treatment they received. They told us their dentist explained their treatment to them well and that staff spoke to them politely and respected confidentiality. They said they felt comfortable and safe during treatment and that the practice was clean and hygienic. They liked being able to see the same dentist every time they visited the service, and that appointments were available when it was convenient for them. For example, one person said; 'I come quite a long way to bring the family here, but we like the dentist and he can fit us all in when I can get the time off work'. They said they were mostly seen on time. One person said; 'I'm usually seen within five minutes of my appointment. Sometimes earlier. Anyway, it's worth the wait'.

We found people using the service were involved in decisions about their care and were treated with dignity and respect. They experienced treatment and care that met their needs and were protected from the risk of infection. Safeguards were in place to protect people from abuse. The provider monitored the quality of service people received; however a system was not in place to ensure checks were repeated in a timely way to ensure improvements had been made.
