17 January 2014

During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

We spoke with the service provider, who confirmed that the day after the inspection, he had enrolled the staff on a structured training programme with an independent training provider. This meant that staff were able to update and develop their skills. The service provider supplied us with documentary evidence that clearly demonstrated the staff had been enrolled on training, and were in the process of following the programme. The service provider also confirmed that staff have now been in receipt of supervision, and again supplied documentary evidence that clearly demonstrated this was the case.

During a routine inspection

During the time we spent at the surgery we spoke to a number of people about the service. We spoke with five patients after their treatment, the registered provider, the practice manager, and four dental nursing staff. This was in order to gain a balanced overview of what patients experienced using this dental practice.

Patients spoke highly of the way they were treated by staff and were happy with the care and support shown to them during the course of their treatment. Comments from patients included, "It's a very friendly practice. The dentist has been brilliant from start to finish."

Patients we spoke with felt they were given enough information about treatment options. They were kept informed about how their treatment was progressing throughout the process. One patient said, "Everything was explained and that put me at ease."

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that ensured patient's safety and welfare. We looked at four patient records that included private and NHS patients. We spoke with the practice manager regarding the assessment of patients and looked at documents used.

During a routine inspection

On the day of our inspection patients visiting the surgery did not want to talk to us.

We reviewed patient satisfaction surveys we found that there had been no concerns raised about the care and treatment in the practice. Comments included:

'The staff are always very friendly '.

'Overall the service from all the staff is at a very high standards, even though it is the dentist you leave very happy and feeling good.'

'A friendly practice which treats me as a human rather than as yet another patient.'

'I was able to get an appointment very quickly.'
