All Inspections

During a routine inspection

People who used the service understood the treatment choices available to them and were given supporting information regarding their support options.

The individual treatment/support plan was designed to meet the individual's needs in the light of their assessment. Comments from the people we contacted by telephone included, "They give me the information on drugs and its effects. Really good service and I really enjoyed it.'

Staff received appropriate training, to ensure that the support they provided was delivered safely.

The service had a number of systems in place to make sure that the provider assessed and monitored its delivery of care and support. This included audits of people's support records, management plans, health & safety checks and risk monitoring.

We saw that KCA had a complaints policy and procedure. The complaint leaflet procedure was in the reception area so that it was available to staff and people who used the service.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three young people who had used the service at KCA YPS Medway and those we spoke with told us that the service was "excellent". One person told us " It has been fantastic, a really good service". Another person said "The staff are very good, they are kind, respect my wishes and are always very supportive". A third young person remarked, 'Everything was fully explained at the beginning and I had opportunities to ask questions".

We looked at records and spoke with members of staff. We saw that young people using the service had signed consent forms and records were clearly presented. Staff explained how the service worked and their respective roles within the service. One member of staff spoke to us about the importance of respecting boundaries and confidentiality. The staff said, 'I discuss their assessment with them verbally to enable the person understand the choices available to them before proceeding'.

We found that care plans were reviewed on a regular basis and information was clearly documented.

There were systems in place to report safeguarding incidents. There was a policy and process in place for ensuring that appropriately trained staff were recruited and safety checks were completed.
