During a routine inspection
Patients we spoke with were positive about their experience of treatment at Garston Dental Clinic. One patient told us "The surgery is clean, they offered protective clothing to me for my examination. Staff also wore protective clothing." Another patient told us "I received lots of information following my consultation, this explained the procedure and possible side effects."
We looked at five care files for patients who had received treatment at the clinic. The files were well organised and contained documentation to support the referral process through to treatment and discharge. Treatment plans had been provided to the patient to outline the procedure and costs. We could see that patients had given consent to their treatment. Following completion of the treatment the clinic provided a discharge letter to the referring dental practice to confirm the details of treatment.
We found areas of non compliance for supporting workers. Suitable arrangements were not in place to ensure staff were appropriately supported.
We also found areas of non compliance for assessing and monitoring the quality of service provision. Suitable systems were not in place to regularly assess and monitor the safety and quality of services being provided.
