Background to this inspection

Updated 18 May 2016

We undertook a desk based inspection of Bondgate Dental Practice on 19 April 2016. This inspection was carried out to check that improvements to meet legal requirements planned by the practice after our inspection on 15 February 2016 had been made. We inspected the practice against one of the five questions we ask about services: is the service safe. This is because the service was not meeting some legal requirements.

The inspection was carried out by a CQC inspector.

During the inspection we spoke with the lead dental nurse and supporting evidence was sent to the inspector to confirm our findings.

Overall inspection

Updated 18 May 2016

We carried out an unannounced inspection of this practice on 15 February 2016. Breaches of legal requirements were found. After the inspection, the practice wrote to us to say what they would do to meet legal requirements in relation to safe care and treatment.

We undertook this focused inspection to check they had followed their plan and to confirm they now met legal requirements. This report only covers our findings in relation to those requirements. You can read the report from our last comprehensive inspection, by selecting the 'all reports' link for Bondgate Dental Practice on our website at www.cqc.org.uk.

Our findings were:

Are services safe?

We found that this practice was providing safe care in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Background

Bondgate dental practice is situated in the centre of Helmsley, North Yorkshire close to public transport links. The practice has two treatment rooms, a waiting area and a reception area.

The practice had no registered manager at the time. A registered manager is a person who is registered with the Care Quality Commission to manage the service. Like registered providers, they are ‘registered persons’. Registered persons have legal responsibility for meeting the requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated Regulations about how the practice is run.

Our key findings were:

  • Equipment including the compressor was replaced and validated giving due regard to the pressure vessel certification requirements.
  • The practice is now compliant with its legal obligations under Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR) 99 and Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulation (IRMER) 2000 including having a named RPA for the practice and equipment.
