All Inspections

23 November 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with one person who used the service, two members of staff and the registered manager. We also reviewed the feedback people had left about their care and treatment during the month of our inspection.

The person we spoke with was very happy with their care. They told us, 'The staff have been absolutely excellent and I have been made to feel at ease' and 'The standard of care has been excellent'. Comments from the feedback forms we reviewed included, 'The staff were all lovely, friendly and very helpful. Thank you' and, 'The nurse I saw was lovely'.

We saw that people were involved in making decisions about their care and treatment and staff were responsive to people's choices.

People were protected from the risks associated with their care and treatment because appropriate checks were made to ensure that people were fit to receive treatment.

Staff knew how to raise concerns about people's safety, if they suspected people were at risk of harm.

The right numbers and mix of staff were available to ensure that people's needs were met.

There was an effective complaints procedure in place and the registered manager and provider responded appropriately to complaints.

19 March 2013

During a routine inspection

As part of our inspection we reviewed 15 sets of records used to gain people's consent for treatment. We found that before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes.

We also looked at 15 care plans and found that care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. One person we spoke with told us, 'It's a good service overall. It's good how quick and caring they are.'

Appropriate arrangements were in place in relation to obtaining, recording, handling and prescribing medicine. Medicines were also kept and administered safely.

Staff received appropriate professional development and were able, from time to time, to obtain further relevant qualifications. One staff member told us, 'The nature of the work can be very demanding but we are well supported.'

We found that improvements had taken place in the quality of record keeping from our previous inspection. People's personal records, including medical records were accurate and fit for purpose.

13 March 2012

During an inspection in response to concerns

The visit was part of a responsive review programme initiated at Fraterdrive LTD, following concerns raised in relation to breaches of the Abortion Act 1967, at another location.

We did not speak with people who used the service on this occasion.
