During a routine inspection
The waiting room had a display board which had information about the surgery and dental health. Leaflets were also available and gave information on oral health and tooth brushing. Dental products were available to purchase from the reception.
We spoke with one patient who said "I am really very satisfied with all aspects of my treatment here. I have no complaints at all." "Everything is explained well and also you get copies of letters and treatment plans".
The surgery provided orthodontic treatments only, for children and adults. Patients visited the surgery more frequently during their treatment plan, than other dental practices.
Patient's records were kept electronically and in hand held files. We sampled 4 records and found that they were well maintained and contained all the required information. Medical histories were recorded and updated as required.
We found that the whole of the practice was clean and very well organised. Each surgery was very clean and organised. Hand wash facilities were separate from utility sinks.
There was a nominated lead for infection control, who had received training to support the role. The lead had also attended "Train the trainer" sessions from the infection control lead at the local primary care trust.
