During a routine inspection

The purpose of this inspection was to find out answers to five key questions. Is the practice caring? Is the practice responsive? Is the practice safe? Is the practice effective? Is the practice well led?

Below is a summary of what we found. The summary is based on our observations during the inspection when we sought information about people's experience and gained views from people who used the service, the staff who supported them and from looking at records.

We spoke with the provider (dentist) dental nurses and receptionist, in addition to spending time with the practice manager.

Patients told us they were all highly satisfied with the service they received. They described the staff as 'brilliant and very friendly', really friendly and welcoming' and 'warm, friendly and always had a smile'. One patient said the 'dentist was very good' and another person said the dentist had a nice approach and was extremely professional'. They said they felt comfortable talking with them.

Is the practice safe?

There were adequate arrangements for cleaning the practice and managing infection control processes. The provider had safe recruitment practices and staff were supported to deliver the service well. The practice provided conscious sedation for people who were anxious about dental treatment.

Is the practice caring?

A range of general dentistry was provided along with cosmetic treatments including single visit crowns. The premises were suitable for patients who used a wheelchair.

Is the practice effective?

People told us they were happy with the service they received. The provider had obtained equipment and was to do training to use laser treatment for gum infections and reduce the use of antibiotics.

Is the practice responsive?

There were early evening appointments available for patients who worked. Arrangements were in place and staff had training to deal with medical emergencies.

Is the practice well led?

Staff meetings were held regularly. The dentist and practice manager had an open door policy so that staff could speak with them at any time.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who used the service on the day of our visit. One person told us that the service they received was "fantastic". Another person told us "I can't fault them". People told us that it was easy to make appointments and that they were kept informed about the costs involved in their treatments. We were told that people were given all the options open to them in a course of treatment and allowed to make their own decisions about how to proceed.

One person told us that they had been present whilst a relative had undergone a filling. They told us that the communication from the dentist was excellent and everything had been explained.
