During a routine inspection
We saw that there was clear information displayed in the waiting areas about NHS charges and there were leaflets available on various types of procedures.
The provider explained that their approach to consent was to ensure people had sufficient information to make a decision about their treatment. They said that they explained the risks and benefits of people's treatment options to them and recorded this discussion in their notes. We spoke with people visiting the practice on the day of our inspection. One person told us: 'I wanted to look at the options and the dentist is very good at giving you time to think. You get the options and the information about what you can expect like numbness of the lip.' Another person said: 'Getting time to make my mind up was important to me.'
We looked at eight people's dental notes and saw that the discussion with the dentist was recorded in detail and included information about what had been explained to the person and what had been agreed. We saw that treatment plans and relevant NHS documentation had been signed indicating people's agreement to treatment.
