Learning culture

Score: 3

Staff told us they knew how to report concerns about safety and had appropriate safeguarding training.

People told us the provider listened when things were not working and had made the necessary changes.

Leaders told us incidents were reviewed as part of team meetings, to remind staff of actions and how to manage risk.

Safe systems, pathways and transitions

Leaders liaised with other professionals to ensure people received continuity of care.

Leaders told us they carried out an initial assessment for people. This was reviewed and updated as required or annually.

Staff told us they received appropriate information about a person’s needs before they started to support them. Staff worked with other professionals, such as occupational therapists, to ensure people had the right equipment and were being supported safely.

People told us they were happy with how staff liaised with other professionals to provide safe and appropriate support.

Safeguarding

Leaders told us there was a safeguarding policy and procedure, this was displayed in the office. Safeguarding training had been completed by all staff.

Staff told us they were confident they had a good understanding of safeguarding, how to recognise abuse and what to do about it. Staff told us the provider was quick to respond to any concerns.

People told us they felt safe when staff visited them. One person said, “I feel very safe with the carers here, they are all lovely. No concerns at all.”

Involving people to manage risks

There were systems to monitor and review risk management and keep information up to date. Updates were provided to all staff via their care app and a message service app.

People told us the staff have the right skills to keep them safe. One person said, “I think they provide care for me in a safe way.”

Staff told us they were aware of the risks people faced and care plans contained clear information about people’s needs and how to meet them safely.

Safe and effective staffing

Score: 3

Staff told us they had been trained to carry out their jobs safely and had received an induction. Staff told us they had one to one supervision and had regular feedback to help them develop their knowledge and skills.

Improvements had been made to make sure staff were recruited safely. There were improved systems to provide staff with the training they required, which the general manager monitored. Leaders told us staff had supervision regularly and spot checks were also carried out so staff could be observed supporting people.

People told us they were happy with the staff who visited them. Staff were appropriately trained and were caring. People we spoke with told us staff were reliable. One person said, “The staff are very good. Amazing when I was really poorly.”

Medicines optimisation

Score: 3

People told us they were satisfied with the support provided to take their medicines correctly.

Medicines management had improved. We saw medicines administration records which were fully completed. Regular audits were completed and ‘as required’ protocols were in place where needed. Leaders told us staff had mandatory training in medicines administration and had competency spot checks of their practice. Leaders told us they had learned lessons following the stakeholder quality assessment and changes had been made to staff training requirements.

Staff told us they completed the required training and there was guidance in place for them to follow.
