Responsive

Requires improvement

Updated 6 September 2024

We assessed 1 quality statement in the responsive key question and found areas of good practice and concern. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the rating from the last inspection, which was good. Though the assessment of these areas indicated areas of good practice since the last inspection, our rating for the key question has changed to requires improvement. People were not always placed at the centre of their care and treatment choices. Decisions were not always made in partnership with them or people important in their lives who could support them with this. People were not consistently supported to achieve their goals and aspirations.

This service scored 57 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Person-centred Care

Score: 2

One person’s family had provided equipment to support their loved one to contact family but staff had failed to facilitate this communication. They said, “When we do call it’s never answered.” We noted people had a lack of information in their care files to guide staff to support people to achieve their goals.

Staff were able to give examples of things they did that evidenced they provided individuals with person-centred care. One staff member told us, “I go the extra mile to engage [Name] in activities they enjoy. This not only bring them joy but also help then feel valued and respected as an individual with unique interests and preferences”.

While staff practice was not always observed to be person-centred we saw that the management team were working with their team to improve this. We saw good examples of the manager guiding staff to improve how they engaged with people using a person-centred approach including how to support people with more complex needs to ensure that they were given the opportunity to lead how they wished to be supported.
