During a routine inspection

We visited Little Ingestre House on a planned unannounced inspection which meant the service did not know we were coming.

People who used the service appeared happy and relaxed and told us they liked living at Little Ingestre House. Activities were on offer to keep people stimulated throughout the day.

Relatives of people who used the service told us they were happy with the care their relative received but sometimes the little things were missed liked making beds properly and tidying wardrobes.

The manager demonstrated knowledge of the safeguarding procedure ensuring people were kept safe from abuse or the risk of abuse.

Systems were in place to monitor the quality of the service and the manager told us they worked alongside staff to ensure high standards of care are met.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to people living at the home. Everyone said they liked living there. They said that they got on well with the staff and that were supported to have their needs met. People made decisions about the things they wanted to do. Comments from people included:

"I decide what I want to do and the staff help me to do it"

and

"I like it here".

People were involved in planning their care and had a say in how the home was run. There were meetings to discuss the running of the home and one person called a link resident met with the manager to talk about any issues that were raised. We saw that the manager took action to address any concerns people had.

A range of activities were available for people to take part in. These took account of the things people wanted to do. Some people went to college, most people went out shopping and some people went on holiday.

People were having their health and personal care needs met. People were supported to go for any specialist health care appointments they needed. People had dental and eye checks and a chiropodist visited the home.

Staff had the training needed to provide people with the care and support they needed. A lot of the staff had obtained a recognised care qualification.

There were systems in place to monitor the care given to people and to make sure the home was safe. Although people were kept safe we did see some minor issues that the home's monitoring had not picked up. The provider has informed us that these issues have now been addressed.
