During a routine inspection

As part of this inspection we spoke with two people who used or had used the service. They told us they were given enough information by Selby Drug Services, so they knew what the service would do and what they could expect.

People told us they felt they were treated with dignity when attending Selby Drug Services. One person said, 'I get on with everyone here, and can trust them. '

The service worked collaboratively with many other health and social care agencies. All the people we spoke with said they felt 'comfortable' with staff working in the service. One person said, 'I've been coming here a long time. They taught me not to be so angry and to respect myself and other people.'

Nurses and support workers provided the assessment and treatment of people who used the service. The nurse we spoke with made positive comments about the service provided at Selby Drug Services and the support they received to carry out their roles.

Effective management systems were in place to monitor the quality of the service and promote people's safety and welfare.

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we looked at records and documentation for people using the service. We saw that consent to care and treatment was regularly obtained both verbally and in written form. The person we spoke with told us that staff always asked before carrying out any care. People using the service had a detailed care plan that looked at all aspects of their life. Staff used the information provided to ensure people accessed the right services.

We only saw one person using the service and they told us they received good support from staff and felt safe using the service.

There was a complaints procedure, as well as other monitoring processes in place to ensure that any issues were addressed quickly and appropriately. Staff told us that they deal with concerns and grumbles as they arose. One person who used the service told us that they had made a complaint and it had been dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Staff told us they had to have a proper check before they could start work at Compass, this was to ensure they were suitable to work with vulnerable people.

They said that Compass work with other agencies when they needed to and always explained what they are doing. People also said that they are always being asked for their opinion of the service and that they felt their opinion mattered. All of the people spoken with said that staff treated them with respect and dignity at all times and they never felt like when they were being judged because of their lifestyle.

Staff told us that they received training that they identified through their supervision and appraisals. They also said the manager was supportive and operated an open door policy.
