All Inspections

During an inspection in response to concerns

People who used the service told us they were happy with the service they received. We saw that staff were encouraging people to participate in activities and support people with their daily routines. Staff listened to people and took their views seriously and answered their questions.

Individual personalised care plans were in place to make sure people were receiving the treatment they needed. We found that there were systems in place to make sure people were receiving their medication on time; however, we found that medication was not always recorded correctly.

People told us they felt safe at the service and we found that staff had undertaken safeguarding training and knew who to contact if they felt someone was at risk of abuse.

We found that the service did not have a robust recruitment process and not all staff had all the appropriate checks before starting employment. Systems were in place to monitor the service that people received to ensure that the service was satisfactory and safe.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with people who used the service, the provider, deputy manager and support workers, including volunteers and a therapist. We looked at people's support plans and the service's policies and procedures.

We found that before people received support they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes.

Support was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. We noted the comments made by one person, 'It has provided a safe place to sort out my feelings, which is what I needed. It's been a painful but effective experience while ploughing through my issues. But I don't feel alone now as I prepare to face the future, addiction free.'

We saw that people were protected against the risks associated with medicines because the provider had appropriate arrangements in place to manage medicines.

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs.

There was an effective complaints system available. Comments and complaints people made were responded to appropriately. We were told by staff, 'We are a small team and the manager is always open and approachable. We can always talk with them if we had a concern or complaint, either for the people we work with or ourselves.'
