Staff encouraged and supported people to be independent and do things for themselves, whenever possible, as this was the aim of the service. They were supported to have choice and control and make decisions about how their support was provided. This promoted and improved their quality of life and self-worth. People and their relatives told us staff gave good care and support in a friendly way, paying attention to small details that made all the difference. Staff acknowledged people’s rights to privacy, dignity and confidentiality, and people said they felt respected. People said staff were compassionate, cared about people and passionate about the people they provided a service to

Treating people as individuals

People said they were treated as individuals, and had choice and control about when and how they preferred to receive staff care and support, were able to express their views, understood their right to be involved and make informed choices, and how these should be respected. They said they were encouraged and supported to do as much as they could for themselves, to maintain their independence. People told us staff supported them to be as independent as they were willing and safely able to be. One person said, “Everyone is helpful, punctual and have helped me get back on my feet.” Another person remarked, “I am amazed at the fabulous support I have received from great people [Staff]. It couldn’t have been better.” People told us, the provider frequently contacted them and their relatives to determine if they were receiving the care and support, they wanted and needed. Regular spot checks also took place. Relatives told us staff provided people with support in an appropriate way, without compromising their dignity. They also understood that this was someone’s home, they must act accordingly, and in a respectful manner. People and their relatives said they felt respected, and staff treated people with kindness, and dignity. A person using the service said, “Respectful and caring, what more can I say.” A relative told us, “[Person using the service] would and could not have made such progress without the support they received.” A staff member commented, “I love my job, seeing people progress."

Managers and staff feedback demonstrated they offered people choices about their care and promoted their independence. Staff spoke about people with kindness and compassion. They knew people well as individuals and understood that they should be supported to have choice and control and make decisions about how their care was provided. They made sure people could be as independent as possible and respected their rights.

People said the aim of the service was to promote their independence and enable them to live as independently as possible. They said this was achieved by the support input of staff and other healthcare professionals that provided a holistic approach to the care they received, and progress they made. They were fully aware of their rights, and involved in making choices regarding the care and support that was provided for them. One person said, "I could not receive better support, given by people [Staff] who really care about me."
