During a routine inspection
Following our visit we spoke by phone to some family members of people who live at the home. One person told us:
'I am absolutely delighted with Hooton Chase, it is fantastic. My [relative] used to be quite timid but he has really come out of himself since he has been there. He is kept occupied during the day and he has privacy when he needs it.'
Another person told us she is very involved with the care of her relative and is kept informed of everything going on. She told us:
'I am more than happy, they are like a family. My [relative] has enough to do during the day. She has made great progress with reading and writing since she has lived there, and her speech and her general behaviour have improved.'
Other comments included:
'They are absolutely brilliant and I can't fault them. It is a shame there aren't more homes like this."
'The whole family feel that she couldn't be anywhere better.'
One of the relatives we spoke with said that the staff are always very helpful with any queries. They have not had to raise any concerns but would approach the manager or senior manager (who they know well) if needed. The family are very happy with the way that the home supports their relative to manage his money and it enables him to save up to buy things he wants.
Another relative said that they could approach any of the staff or managers with any concerns. They have never needed to make a complaint and have always been satisfied with the way any queries have been responded to. There has never, ever been any issues of abuse, but when there have been staff who were not up to scratch this was dealt with by management. They are happy with the way their relative's finances are handled and she gets everything she needs.
One person said that when she visits the home she has freedom of movement in the building and 'nothing is hidden'.
