All Inspections

During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

This follow up inspection looked at improvements made in medication administration and complaints. Therefore we did not, on this occasion, speak to people who used the service.

We found that improvements had been made. Systems had been put in place for the management and administration of medication. These included more effective monitoring of the management of medication including recording and dealing with any medication errors should they occur. Staff had received training, information and supervision to ensure they were competent and skilled to carry out their role.

Complaints from people who used the service and their families had been dealt with in a timely and appropriate way.

People who used the service could be assured that systems were now in place to protect them from harm and to respond to them in a respectful and appropriate manner.

During a routine inspection

The people we spoke with said they or their relative had discussed and agreed to their care provision before they started using the service. They said they had received an assessment of their needs and felt staff were meeting those needs. People told us they felt they or their relative were receiving the correct medication at the right time. They said they were aware of how to raise any concerns or make a complaint, but some felt they were not having their concerns responded to appropriately by the service. We found the service was not maintaining an up to date record of the complaints it received and investigated.

We saw that people received an assessment of their needs and these were being updated. A process was in place for people to agree to their care provision. We saw the process was being used well. We found the service was completing appropriate employment checks on its staff. The staff at the service were suitably experienced and qualified and were trained in and knowledgeable about such things as the administration of medication. However, we found that staff were not always maintaining accurate records on the administration of medication and managers at the service were not recording monitoring checks on medication documentation.

During a routine inspection

People told us that staff were respectful towards them and involved them in decisions about their support and care. One person told us "I can't complain about anything. They help with anything and they ask me if there is anything else I need help with. It is lovely." One relative told us "The carers are quite good. They do what I want them to do."

A relative told us that they had previously had some concerns with a few staff that were not spending the agreed amount of time and not undertaking all the tasks on the care plan. When they raised this with the provider, action was taken to resolve the issues.

People told us they felt safe and well supported by the service and said they were confident in the care staff.
