During a routine inspection

We spoke with seven people living at the home and three relatives. People told us that they liked living at The Gables. People said that the staff were excellent. Comments made included 'the staff are very good, they are a good bunch'.

Some people said the food was very good another said it was average. People were unsure if a choice of meal was available. People living at the home told us they enjoyed the cooked breakfasts in particular.

Relatives told us that the staff were 'responsive and friendly', and 'always made them feel welcome', another said 'the staff are outstanding'.

People said that there were some activities going on in the lounge if they wanted to join in.

People remarked that things at the home were improving since the appointment of the new manager and said they found her friendly and that she got things done.

People said that whilst they liked their own rooms and that the lounge and dining room were very nice, they missed not being able to use the garden, and some areas of the home were scruffy and unfinished.

During an inspection in response to concerns

The people who use this service said that they are happy living in the home. Some said that they would like better access to the communal areas and that the lack of heat in these areas meant that they could not use them. Some people said they felt 'a bit chilly'.
