Greensand House is a care home providing personal care for people who have care needs, such as deteriorating mobility, health conditions and people that are living with dementia. We completed this assessment between 20 January 2024 and 6 February 2024 that included an onsite visit on 24 January 2024. Risk assessments were always undertaken or updated to reflect the most accurate information. Robust action was not always being taken to ensure people were protected against the risk of falls. The deployment of staff on the top floor was not always effective to ensure that people were kept safe. However, there were sufficient staff deployed on the ground floor. The governance systems in place were not always robust in ensuring actions were taken to address shortfalls identified. However, there were other audits taking place where actions had been taken to make improvements. Staff understood what constituted abuse and what to do if they suspected abuse was taking place. There were systems and processes in place to protect people from abuse. The provider ensured suitable staff worked at the service within their recruitment processes. Staff supported people to remain independent and ensured they gave people choices. Care plans detailed that people should be given choices and to respect those choices. The provider and staff understood the importance of ensuring all people have equal access to care. Staff said they felt supported and valued. We observed the leadership team were respectful to the staff team and had an open-door policy.

People's experience of the service

Updated 16 January 2024

People fed back staff were well trained and effective in the care delivery. One person told us, “They are all very good.” A relative told us, “They are all very well trained.” People felt safe and secure with staff and relatives felt reassured that staff were caring towards their loved ones. One person said, “It is very safe here, I feel staff will help me with everything.” People felt there were sufficient staff but on one floor they felt staff were not always accessible. People felt they were supported with risks associated with their care. One person told us, “The staff are very good, and the building is very secure." People said they were able to make choices around their care and were supported to remain as independent as possible. Comments included, “Overall, I’m quite independent, and the staff respect that. Whenever I need assistance staff are there for me” and “They’re always asking me what I want to do, they remind me of what is going on in the home.”
