All Inspections

10 September 2013

During a routine inspection

People were asked for their consent prior to having their scan.

The provider ensured where people lacked the capacity to make decisions for themselves, their best interests were upheld in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

People we spoke with were very happy with the service they received. Comments from people included 'The assistants (staff) were very nice, very helpful, polite and well-mannered', "(The staff member) knew what they were about, was efficient and that's what I like' and '(The staff) made me feel nice and comfortable.'

The provider had contracts in place for the regular servicing and maintenance of equipment within the unit.

People were complimentary about the staff employed by the provider. Comments included 'I felt relaxed thanks to the staff' and 'I felt like I knew what was going on all the time. The (staff) kept telling me how long the next one (scan) was; I liked that.'

We found there were effective recruitment and selection processes in place. People's needs were being met by staff who were appropriately qualified.

People's complaints were fully investigated and resolved, where possible, to their satisfaction.

29 November 2012

During a routine inspection

People who used the service were given appropriate information and support regarding their treatment.

We spoke with three people who had received an MRI scan on the day of our inspection. They all told us the staff had treated them with dignity and respect and they were very kind and helpful to them. They also told us staff had provided them with all the relevant information to help them understand what was happening throughout the procedure.

People said they were put at ease and reassured by the staff who communicated with them throughout the procedure. We saw this in practice and heard the staff asked people if they were alright and advised them of the time left. One person told us the staff were 'Very friendly, concerned and made sure I was happy with what was going on.'

People were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

People were very complimentary about the staff. Comments about the staff and people's experience of them included 'They're really friendly', 'Thank the staff for me', 'They're excellent' and 'I have nothing to complain about.'

20 September 2012

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We did not speak with people who used the service due to the nature of the compliance action set at the previous inspection on 31 January 2012. We spoke with the registered manager and two radiographer's who worked at Bishop Auckland MRI Unit and looked at records kept by the provider that demonstrated how they monitored the quality of service provided.
