All Inspections

During a routine inspection

In this report the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still a registered manager on our register at the time.

We found care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way which ensured people's safety and welfare. One person said 'I am diabetic and the staff know what I can have to eat.' Another person said 'We get good nutritious food here'. Other comments included 'You get treat very well here. The staff are very helpful,' 'They took time to find out about my choices,' 'During the night if I need anything I just press the buzzer' and 'When I was unwell they quickly got the doctor in to see me.' A visiting relative told us 'I visited many care homes near to where I lived but I choose this one because the staff are very good and make me feel part of it. They moved my mam's room so she could have a good view out of her window and so she could see more staff.' (Her previous room had been located at the end of a corridor so staff did not often pass it often).

The provider had made suitable arrangements to protect vulnerable people and respond appropriately to any allegation of abuse.

We found staff received appropriate support for their professional development. Staff told us 'We get lots of training, its on-going' and 'You always learn something with the training. They (the provider) are spot on with that."

People were given support by the provider to make a comment or complaint where they needed assistance.

We found the provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people using the service and promote their health and wellbeing.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with several people who used the service. Everyone spoke positively about the care they received.

People told us they could choose how to spend their day and the staff treated them with dignity and respect. One person said 'They look after my privacy and dignity. They always knock on my bedroom door and call out before coming in.'

People explained to us how their care and welfare needs were met. One person said 'We see the dentist and optician.' Another person said 'They (the staff) keep me informed about my hospital appointments. Sometimes a member of staff goes with me to help me understand what is being said.'

Everyone said they would have no hesitation in making a complaint if they were unhappy. One person said 'If there was anything wrong, if I had any problems I would talk to the staff.'

Other comments from people included:

'I'm satisfied. They are very very nice.'

'It's a really excellent home.'

'They find out what I like and don't like.'

'They provide a lot of entertainment.'

'I couldn't fault them.'

We watched how the staff supported the people in their care. We saw people were treated with dignity and respect. For example, when staff talked with people they made sure that they got down to their eye level. When people were supported to walk, they were not rushed but supported to move at a pace comfortable for them. We heard staff address people respectfully, speaking quietly about private matters.

During a routine inspection

We talked with many of the people who both lived at Feryemount, or who were receiving intermediate care or a short break service there. They told us that staff treated them with dignity and respect and offered them choices. People in receipt of intermediate care told us how the staff had helped them to gain their independence again after a spell in hospital. People told us that they felt safe at Feryemount and that they were looked after well. Everyone was very complimentary about the care staff and they told us that they would have no hesitation complaining if they were not happy.
