During a routine inspection

Some of the people living at Fraser Drive had complex needs and were not able to verbally communicate their views and experiences to us. These individuals were completely reliant on staff to meet their physical, emotional and social needs. Because of this we observed staff interactions with people to help us understand how their needs were supported.

We observed that staff treated people with respect, protected their dignity and generally had professional and positive relationships with people.

Some of the people who lived at the home were able to tell us their views and we spoke to two people in depth. They told us that staff treated people with respect, protected their dignity and professional, informal relationships with people. This is what they said;

'Staff are great, they help me.'

'They knock on my door before they come in my bedroom'.

'I like the staff, they are really nice, I'm going out to the shops soon to get some stuff and they come with me'.

'I like living here, it's like living with a friend and I go to Firth Park for arts and crafts'.

People we spoke to told us that their needs were being met, they got on well with the staff and felt respected by the way staff supported them. They said 'I have got a care plan, I've seen it and I like it, it's got lots about me in it'.

We asked people about the meals available at the home, they said,

'Yes, staff help me make choices, about what I have to eat'.

'Staff help us to do lots of things, make my dinner and cups of tea, go out to the pub, I like pubs, go out for meals, we go shopping with them to buy food and that'.

'Food is nice; we have a take away once a week I like them'.

'I can choose what I have for my meals, there are pictures on the fridge for each day's menu, but we can have something else if we don't like it'.

'We help the staff to make meals'. 'We go to the supermarket with staff to buy our shopping'.

People told us they felt safe and happy living at the home.

'I do feel safe here; staff are kind and good to me'.

'I like living here; it's like living with a friend'.

One person told us they would like to live in their own flat as, 'I want to be more independent, I could live on my own you know, I like it quiet you see'.

People said staff supported them to manage their medication and were happy for this to continue. One person said,

'Staff give me my tablets, that's alright'.

People told us they liked their home. One person told us they had chosen their own d'cor and curtains in their bedroom.

Another person said, 'I've got my own TV, Video and DVD and I collect films and music', they went on to show us a huge library of CD's DVD's and Videos.

Overall, we found that people were happy living at Fraser Drive and were supported by a very committed team of staff
