During a routine inspection

People who used the service appeared comfortable, were appropriately dressed and looked well cared for but they were not able to tell us about the care and support they received. We spoke with two relatives of people who used the service and four members of staff. Relatives told us that they were very happy with service. One said they, 'Could not wish for a better place' and 'The staff cannot do enough.'

Staff said they were well supported and felt valued. They told us teamwork was good. One said they were impressed by the care and attention given to residents and also, 'The support staff give to each other.'

Relatives told us they were fully involved in decisions about the care and treatment of people who used the service. One of the relatives we spoke with told us they had been, 'Fully involved in mum's care. We speak to staff when we visit and get information about mum's needs.'

We saw that care plans were personalised. They included a pen picture of each person, their likes and dislikes and details of their extended family. Each person's individual needs were recorded and regularly reviewed.

The provider had appropriate arrangements in place to ensure that there was an adequate supply of prescribed medicines. The administration of medicines was appropriately recorded and staff were given special instructions where there were concerns a person was at risk of not taking their medication.

A copy of the provider's complaints policy and procedures was on display in the entrance area. The relatives we spoke with were aware of the complaints procedures and knew how they could raise a concern.

During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people who used the service, including talking with people and observing the care being delivered. The service cares for and supports people with a wide range of needs. Some people using the service were able to share their views and experiences whilst others had complex needs and were not able to tell us their experiences.

People we spoke with said they enjoyed living at the home and were very satisfied with the care and support they received. Comments included:

'It's alright here; they help you with whatever you ask.'

'The care is good, the food is great, it's better than a hotel.'

'Everyone is treated well here, no trouble of any kind.'

'I get good help.'

We saw staff interacting with people in a respectful and caring manner. They showed warmth and thoughtfulness when giving support to people. Their communication with people was positive and clearly showed that staff knew people and their needs well.

People said they felt safe at the home and would have no hesitation in raising concerns if they needed to. Comments included:

'Staff are very kind and caring.'

'I have no complaints but would speak to any of the staff if anything was bothering me.'

People who use the service also spoke highly of the staff. They said they got on well with them and there were enough staff to meet their needs well. One person said, 'They do everything so nice.'
