Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 21 November to 6 December 2024. The service is a care at home service providing support to adults of all ages living in their own homes. Staff were generally recruited safely, where a shortfall was identified during our assessment, the provider took immediate action to rectify this. People were supported by a caring staff team who were trained and supervised appropriately. The service had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Staff understood and managed risks and knew how to keep people safe. Safe systems were in place to ensure medicines were administered appropriately where required People and family members were involved in assessments of their care needs. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes and smooth transitions when moving between services. They monitored people’s health to support healthy living. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. People were treated with kindness and compassion and had a high level of consistency in care staff. Staff protected people’s privacy and dignity and supported their preferences. The service supported staff wellbeing. People were involved in decisions about their care. People and family members knew how to give feedback and were confident the service took it seriously and acted on it. People received fair and equal care and support. The provider was actively involved in the day to day running of the service and created an open and inclusive culture for people, their family members and staff. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were positive about working for Purple Lilac Healthcare.

People's experience of this service

People and their family members told us they were happy with the service and gave us positive feedback about the care staff. Their comments included, “The carers are lovely people and treat Mum with respect.” And “She is safe as the carers are very kind and patient.” People and family members told us staff were well trained and supported them as they wished. One family member told us, “The carers are well trained and my relative likes them.“ We were also told that care staff respected people’s rights to make choices and decisions. One person said, “They treat me with dignity and respect and never assume, always asking me is it ok before they do something to help me.” Staff and management responded to people’s requests to make changes to their planned care and scheduled visits. One family member said, “When there are any changing needs her care plan is discussed, reviewed and updated.” Another told us, “The timings are good and they also have flexibility with the times of calls if there is an appointment that she has to attend.” People and family members told us staff treated them as individuals and they had a high level of continuity in care staff. A person said, “I have two regular carers, that support me well and I feel very safe and have confidence in their ability.“
