During a routine inspection

Two people using the service were happy with the care and support they receive. One person said that they enjoy visiting Bredon, they said "the staff are supportive and friendly, they are really nice and lovely people." They said that they knew how to make any concerns about the service known if they needed to.

Our observations showed that staff are respectful towards the people who use the service. During our visit we observed the people using the service being treated in a friendly and dignified manner by the staff team. Staff were supportive and encouraged people to use their skills. It was clear that positive relationships had been built up between the people using the service and the staff. We observed that staff were able to manage unacceptable behaviour in a manner that was appropriate to the needs of the person and that promoted their dignity.

We spoke to 4 relatives of people using the service. All commented positively about the service provided and support given by the staff. Some comments made were:-

"Bredon is top notch I cannot fault it. The staff are brilliant."

"The service is great there are a range of things for people to do. My relative loves going."

"It's excellent. Staff keep you well informed.

"My relative can't communicate verbally but when they come back from Bredon I can tell that they have enjoyed themselves."

All 4 relatives said that appropriate care and support is given, there are oportunities to go out into the local community and to socialise and that they have never needed to complain but if they did they would know how to.

The last visit by Halton Borough Council was made in January 2011. They found that people using the service are involved in how it is run and in drawing up the plan of care that is in place to support them. They reported that there is access to health and social care agencies when this is needed. They looked at staff recruitment files and concluded that full and proper recruitment is taking place. They reported that staff induction training meets the required standards and that each member of staff has a personal development plan which contains dates of training undertaken and training that is planned. They reported that there are practices in place to ensure that a good quality service is provided. The report shows that 2 carers and 1 person using the service said they were satisfied with the care and support provided.

We contacted the social workers for 3 people whose records we looked at. 1 social worker provided us with information. They said that the people using the service are involved fully in the assessment and care planning and that they have opportunities to visit the service and meet the support staff on a gradual basis before deciding whether to stay. They said that the people using the service are respected and that their dignity is fully maintained.
