During a routine inspection

We spoke with five people who used the service and relatives of people. We spoke with two social workers from the local social services, responsible for referring people to the service.

People and relatives were pleased with the quality of the care that the service provided. They felt it was personalised to individual needs and was flexible enough to meet changing circumstances. One person who used the service said, 'we all have LD (learning disability) problems here and we all get well looked after'. Another person said, 'they don't do everything for me, but say to me 'you can do this for yourself can't you?' '. A relative said, 'they have always been very good with (name) and of course we get to know his key worker'. Another relative said, '(staff) try very hard to open doors for (name) but he is very stubborn ' (name) has done very well (with the service) within his own limitations and has achieved much more than we expected'.

There was evidence of close co-operation between the service and other providers. People said that their health needs were catered for and we saw that people were referred to the other providers as their needs required.

People were protected from abuse by the correct systems and knowledgeable staff. Staff were trained and supported to provide a good standard of care.

There was a complaints system which people felt confident to access. Records were available when necessary and kept securely.

During a routine inspection

People were very pleased with the care they had received. People we spoke with realised that they could probably not live independently without help from this, or another, scheme.

Comments included, 'they are really good to me. Like my new family' and 'without my key worker I would be in a right state'.

People said that staff helped them to manage problems with other agencies, such as housing associations or to access general health services.

People we spoke with had no complaints about the scheme. However they said that if they did have concerns they felt that they would be listened to by their key worker or anyone else from the scheme.

During a routine inspection

Relatives of people who received services told us that they were happy with the care and support that their relative received and that their needs were being met in all areas. They said that the staff treated them with respect, listened to them and supported them to raise any concerns they had about the care. They told us that the service responded to their needs for their relative quickly and that staff talked to them regularly about the plan of care and any changes that may be needed. One person said about staff 'Very reliable, confidence in staff. No complaints' another said 'Very helpful and friendly. They give me advice when I need it'

Discussions with staff, relatives and people using the service showed that the care provided was very personalised and that staff were very flexible dependant on the needs and choices of the individual. Staff work independently with people who use the service to provide a bespoke package of care that was of high quality in that it put the person receiving care at the centre of the care delivered and met their needs within the time and package commissioned by social services.

People received a consistent reliable service that is responsive to their individual needs. The service has an experienced staff team who were well trained to support people independently in their own homes. Staff were encouraged to go on a wide variety of training courses that were relevant to their work.
