During a routine inspection
In September 2011, the relative of a person who had received a rehabilitation service wrote to thank the staff at St Cyril's. Extracts from the letter are:
'The initial pre-admission assessment was done very professionally at a very stressful time for our family. Every effort was made by the doctor and senior nurse to listen to the family's concerns and wishes.
Within days of being admitted to St Cyril's the change in our [relative's] behaviour was vast. The nursing staff's approach, along with the support staff, was tailor made and their expertise had almost instant results.
We were kept informed of all aspects of our [relative's] care and the reasons for all interventions. We were amazed by the fluid approach taken by the medical and nursing staff to the care plans.
We firmly believe that this miraculous recovery was down to the expertise of the entire staff of St Cyril's and the HUMAN approach to patient care.'
During our visit we were able to speak with two patients. They expressed their satisfaction with the support they received. One person told us that when he was admitted to St Cyril's he was unable to do anything for himself but now he is almost ready to return home. He told us 'They have done a good job.'
