All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people who had received laser eye surgery and were happy with the results. One person was experiencing side effects which had continued longer than expected. They had returned to the clinic for follow up treatment and told us staff had helped to try and address their symptoms.

One person told us staff at the clinic were, 'Very encouraging, not intrusive and not pushy'. We saw the information provided about the treatments offered described the risks and benefits of surgery.

People told us they were able to ask questions about their treatment and felt any concerns were listened to. They said they were aware of what to expect after surgery and knew who to contact if they experienced unexpected problems.

We found there were effective infection control arrangements in place. All the staff we spoke with understood the importance of infection control and played an active part in the clinics procedures.

We looked at the arrangements for managing medicines and found there were effective systems in place for the ordering and administration of medicines. Medicines alerts were communicated to the clinic and there were records of any incidents relating to medicines. Risk assessments were in place for an antitumor medicine used in a small number of cases. The risk assessments described the procedures which should be followed in the event of a spillage or other incident.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three patients. They told us they had received sufficient information before starting treatment with the service. They also told us they were treated with dignity and respect and their privacy was maintained.

They told us they felt safe using the service and staff appeared well trained and competent. They knew what to do if they needed to make a complaint.

We found that patients were treated with dignity and respect and received care that met their needs. We found that patients were safe and staff received induction, training and appraisal. We also found that the provider took steps to assess the quality of the service being provided.
