All Inspections

6 June 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we were not able to talk to people who use the service due to the complexity of their needs. We saw that staff understood what people communicated to them and they addressed people's needs promptly.

Part of this inspection was to follow up three Compliance Actions imposed as a result of the findings of our previous inspection of the service. We found that the home had taken action to address these areas and improve the service people received. Improvements included all staff being trained to give people support with medicines, improvements to the records held at the service and information for people and theire representatives about how to make a complaint.

During a routine inspection

During our visit we were not able to talk to the people who use the service, due to their being non-verbal. We observed positive interactions between the staff and people who use the service, where staff appeared to have a good understanding of people's needs and responded to these promptly.

However, we found the arrangements for giving people their medication was not appropriate to meet the needs of the people who use the service. Information about how to make a complaint was not readily available and some records at the service were inaccurate.

5 October 2011

During an inspection in response to concerns

We were not able to speak with people who use the service about their care, support and treatment. We observed staff interacting with the people living at the home and engaging them in activities during our inspection and saw that people were able to exercise choice about activities they undertook.

People's money and medication were both managed appropriately.

A choice of meals was available to people but this was not always displayed appropriately to allow people with communication difficulties to make their choices in advance.

The environment was comfortable and homely. However, the property was not appropriately secured at all times which could mean that people's safety could be compromised.
