All Inspections

During a routine inspection

In this report the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulatory activities at this location at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still a Registered Manager on our register at the time.

People living at the home had complex needs and most of the people were unable to verbally communicate their views and experiences to us. We saw throughout the inspection that staff treated people with dignity and respect. We observed staff knocking on people's bedroom doors prior to going in and heard them engaging positively with people. We observed people having the choice of spending time in their rooms or in the communal areas of the service.

We spoke with four members of staff during the inspection about how they met the individual needs of people. They spoke with knowledge and understanding of the people they supported and cared for. Staff knew what actions to take in the event that they had concerns about potential abuse and the safeguarding of people. However, we identified that some further training is needed in regard to the Mental Capacity Act.

We found that some improvements were needed to repair and refurbish the home.

People had their care and needs assessed, however we found that records were not always up to date or reflective of current needs. This meant that there was the potential for people not to have their needs met.

During a routine inspection

People living at the home had complex needs and most of the people were unable to verbally communicate their views and experiences to us. We were able to observe people's experiences of living in the home and their interactions with each other and the staff. There was a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. People were able to freely move around the home. Two people were observed going to the kitchen for snacks and drinks. Two other people went out shopping with staff and they also had their lunch out.

We saw that people had locks fitted to their bedroom doors. Staff were observed to knock on people's door before going in.

One person took great pride in showing the inspector their rooms, which was extremely personalised. They enjoyed showing the objects they had made at a local pottery club, as well as showing their jewellery. This person also confirmed that they had been fully involved in the decoration of their bedroom as well as choice of curtains and bedding.
