During a routine inspection

We spoke to three people who attended the clinic on the day of our visit. They told us that they had been given enough information about the treatments and choices available to them to make an informed decision about treatment. One person using the service said 'the nurse was very good. She explained everything to me.'

The clinic provided a nurse led early medical termination service. We reviewed four care records and noted that they were person centred. People were always given the time to reflect on and review their decision to proceed with treatment. Records showed that people had been involved in decision making throughout the process and consent forms were fully completed.

We observed that people were treated with professionalism and discretion. One person said staff were ''really lovely, really nice and very professional.' Another person said 'staff were very friendly and understanding.'

The provider had quality assurance processes in place to ensure that equipment was maintained and regularly checked.

There was a complaints procedure in place. No one raised any concerns about the service at the time of our visit.

During a routine inspection

We were only able to speak with one woman who was attending the clinic on the day of our visit. She told us that she had been given all the information she needed to make an informed decision about treatment. She told us that staff in the clinic had treated her with kindness and understanding. She said she was treated respectfully and told us 'nobody has judged me; they have all been really supportive'. Feedback gained through satisfaction surveys conducted by the clinic was generally very positive.

We observed a consultation with a client care coordinator and with a nurse and we looked at some patients' medical records. We saw that there was a thorough assessment of people's needs.

Staff were trained to recognise the signs of abuse and women were directed to sources of support. Staff working at the clinic told us they were well supported with regular training and supervision and we saw records to evidence this. The clinic invited feedback from women who used the service and conducted regular audits to monitor the quality and safety of the service.

During a themed inspection looking at Termination of Pregnancy Services

We did not speak to people who used this service as part of this review. We looked at a random sample of medical records. This was to check that current practice ensured that no treatment for the termination of pregnancy was commenced unless two certificated opinions from doctors had been obtained.
