During a routine inspection

During our visit to Huntsmans Wood, we observed people using services being given choices related to their care and treatment and where they lacked capacity to make a decision, the provider acted in the person`s best interests. Care and support was planned and delivered in a way that ensured people`s safety and welfare. Good interaction was observed and staff members spoke respectfully to people using services. Huntsmans Wood was in a good state of repair and people using services were cared for in a clean and pleasant home because robust procedures were in place which ensured the chances of any infection were minimised.

We looked at staff files which provided evidence of recruitment procedures and they confirmed that all necessary checks had been completed which included receiving an enhanced CRB and two references before any employee commenced work. We observed and were told about a comprehensive complaints process which meant any concerns were fully investigated and resolved, where possible, to the person`s satisfaction and within an appropriate time-scale.

During a routine inspection

Due to the different ways that the people living at Huntsmans Wood communicate we were not able to directly ask them their views on the support they received. However, during our visit we met with one of the people living there. We spent time observing the support they received from staff with their everyday life and how they chose to spend their time at home. We also spoke with the relatives of one of the people who used the service. We have taken this information into account in writing this report. We observed staff engaging with people who used the service in a positive way and observed staff treated people with courtesy and respect.
