During a routine inspection

We spoke with ten people who use the service who told us positive things about the service they had received at St Marys. People's comments included 'I like my own company, I'm very satisfied I like it here', 'I'm very content here' and 'there is plenty of food and the quality is quite good.'

People spoken with indicated that they felt safe living at St Marys. Their comments included 'I like being here it's safe' and 'I feel safe here, there are more staff.' People told us that if they had any concerns they felt they could speak to the staff, one person told us that they would 'tell the staff if they had any problems.' Another person told us 'I have no complaints, I know who to ask.'

We saw that since we last visited improvements had been made in relation to the management of records and staff training in relation to the management of violence and aggression.

In this report the name of a registered manager appears who was not in post and not managing the regulated activities at this location at the time of the inspection. Their name appears because they were still a registered manager on our register at the time.

During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke with more than ten people who used the service and a number of relatives. People told us positive things about the care and support received at St Marys. People told us that they made decisions about their care and support and that staff were respectful and protected their privacy and dignity.

People told us that staff were very good and treated them well.

Staff told us that they felt supported by the manager of the service.

We found that improvements needed to be made in relation to staff training for dealing with challenging situations and maintaining records.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

People told us during our visit that they were happy with the service they received from the staff team.

People told us that they liked the staff.

People told us that they enjoyed being able to sit in the dining areas and having a drink.

During a routine inspection

At the time our visit one person living at the service told us that they were happy and settled at St Mary's. A visitor also told us that their relative had been a resident at the home and felt that the care was outstanding and the staff have different skills and work well together.

During our visit one service user told us that they were happy and settled; their relative also told us that the individuals' situation had improved dramatically since moving to St Mary's.

A visiting healthcare professional told us that it is a pleasure to visit the home and the people who use the service are well cared for and it is a happy home.
