Kirkley provided intermediate care services, which people could be referred to following discharge from hospital or following a fall or period of illness in their home. Whilst at Kirkley people received care and support from two service providers that operated out of Kirkley. Inspirit Care Limited (ICL) was registered to provide care and accommodation at Kirkley and worked in partnership with Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT), to provide intermediate care services. CMFT provided a range of healthcare professionals that included occupational therapists, physiotherapists, two advanced nurse practitioners, nursing staff, a service lead/matron and a consultant geriatrician.

We looked at people's care records and spoke with people who were receiving care about their care and treatment. We spoke with care staff and clinical staff including a physiotherapist, two advanced nurse practitioners and a consultant geriatrician.

People told us they were happy with the care provided. One person said: 'I didn't need to be in hospital but I fell at home and now I need some help and support to get me back home.'

We found that people were fully involved in their care and received clinical support from a range of professionals during their stay.

We found there were good working arrangements between the two registered service providers and effective quality assurance systems in place that ensured good outcomes for people who used the service.
