During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with eleven people who use the service, five relatives and five members of staff. We viewed ten care records and ten staff files. People told us that they were satisfied with the care they received. One person said "I have used the agency for the past two years, it's a great service." Another said "the carers are polite and cheerful and the office staff are very friendly."

Relatives told us that the agency had visited their family member at home before they first started to use the service to discuss their needs and develop a care plan. One relative said "the agency came to visit us to discuss my family member's care needs, we all agreed on a care package together."

People told us that care workers were usually on time and stayed the length of the visits so people received the care and support that had been agreed.

People were protected from abuse, the provider had safeguarding procedures in place and staff had received appropriate training.

There were arrangements in place to get feedback about the quality of the service through annual satisfaction surveys. People told us they had received a questionnaire by post to complete. They said that if they had any concerns about their care they felt comfortable to talk with the manager or other office staff.

Most people said that they receive a good service. Everyone we spoke to confirmed that an initial assessment of their needs was carried out when they first began to use the service and that this had been updated on review or when their needs changed. Everyone said that they had been involved in the planning and review of their care and that the service responded quickly to requests for any changes.

People said that carers were 'very kind' and that they felt that their dignity was respected. Some told us that calls were sometimes late or missed and that they were not always contacted beforehand by Plan Care Uxbridge.

Everyone we spoke with knew how to make a complaint. Those who had done so were satisfied that their complaints were properly investigated.
