During an inspection looking at part of the service

Following the previous inspection on 23 April 2013, we found the provider had made improvements in relation to the management of medicines. People's medication support had been re-assessed so that the level of support given by the provider matched that agreed by the local authority. We found staff had received updated training in medication and had a good understanding of the level of support each person required which considered their needs and independence. The people we spoke with were happy with the level of support they were given by the provider.

However, we found robust documentation was not in place to accurately describe and record the level of medication support given to people.

23 April 2013

During a routine inspection

During the visit we had the opportunity to speak with three people who used the service. They told us they were satisfied with the care and treatment provided. One person told us staff were 'friendly". Another person said 'The service is pretty good, care is pretty much to schedule.'

We saw evidence people's privacy and dignity was respected and their independence promoted.

We found the provider thoroughly assessed the needs of people before they started using the service and their care and welfare needs were met.

However, we found people were not protected against the risks associated with medicines because there were some inconsistencies in the assessment of the level of support people required and the provider did not have robust arrangements in place to record the administration of medicines.

We found the provider had adequate recruitment arrangements in place to ensure its staff were suitable for their role.

We found the provider had robust arrangements in place to monitor and evaluate the quality of its service in order to drive improvement.
