All Inspections

29 January 2014

During a routine inspection

On the day of our inspection we looked at the records of eight people who used the service and those of four members of staff. We also spoke with two people who used the service and two members of staff.

We found that people were able to give informed consent to care and treatment. One member of staff told us that 'we need to be sure that clients are aware of how the treatment might affect them.'

People were protected against receiving inappropriate or unsafe treatment. A person who used the service told us they had received 'very good safety information from staff who clearly know what they are doing.'

We found that the provider had made suitable arrangements to protect those who used the service from risk by ensuring that equipment was properly maintained. We were told by a member of staff that "we have a very strong equipment maintenance team who respond immediately to reported faults." There was an emergency trolley on site which meant that there were arrangements in place to deal with foreseeable emergencies.

We saw that the provider operated effective recruitment procedures. Staff had the skills and qualifications necessary to do their job. We were told by a member of staff how "the company offers a lot of training to keep us up to date on developments in treatment."

We found that the provider ensured that records were accurate and kept securely. We saw how the files of those who used the service were audited and checked for accuracy of recording.

The clinic offered laser hair removal and tattoo removal, and cosmetic procedures such as botox, facial fillers and skin peels. Treatments were provided by doctors, trained nurses or therapists.

People who used the service told us that they had felt involved in discussions about their treatments and had been made aware of the options. They spoke positively about their experience in the clinic and the staff. They confirmed that everything was always explained to them and they had felt able to ask any questions that they might have.

Staff had received appropriate training to help them in their role and this was updated regularly. Supervision and appraisal arrangements were in place. The service had developed ways of obtaining feedback from people and monitoring the quality of their service.

During a routine inspection

When we visited the service, we were able to speak to some people who had received treatment in the clinic and some others who were waiting.

They told us they were very happy with the service. They said 'everyone is very nice', 'they explain everything to you very well' and 'I have been coming here for a while, it's very good'.
