During an inspection looking at part of the service

We spoke with four people who used the service and three members of staff.

People who used the service told us they were satisfied with the accommodation, the staff and life in general. One person told us 'It was the best decision of my life when I decided to move into Soropotimist House. I am very happy; I can come and go as I like. I have a lovely bedroom and the staff are all very friendly and helpful'. They went on to tell us that they enjoyed the food and could request an alternative if they so wished. Some people were unable or reluctant to speak with us. We saw people looked comfortable, warm and seemingly well at ease.

One person told us they were unsure of what records were kept at the home about them. They told us that they had memory problems, but felt that the staff would discuss their care with them. We looked at some records for this person and saw that they had signed to say that they agreed with the assessments and plan.

People told us that they felt able to talk with any member of staff if they had any concerns and felt that the problem would be 'quickly sorted out'. Staff we spoke with told us they had received training in the protection of vulnerable adults. This means that they are able to spot and identify any potential risks to people and take appropriate action swiftly.

We saw that the home was clean and hygienic. People told us that the staff work very hard to keep it 'spotless'.

Staff told us how medication is managed that is kept on behalf of people who used the service. Some change was needed to ensure that a particular medication was stored correctly in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

People who used the service told us the staff were all very good at their job and looked after them 'very well'. Staff told us that some training had taken place but more needed to be arranged.

We saw that some records, such as care plans and risk assessments, were lacking essential information, and as such did not support or reflect people's current individual needs.

During a routine inspection

The majority of people using the service told us that they were satisfied with the care provided. They said the staff were very good to them, the food was sufficient and varied and that they had a choice of menu. They said that they could go to bed at times to suit them with one person stating that they prefer to be in bed by 9 pm as they could then watch the television in comfort. One person told us that they thought there is not enough staff to care for all the people in the home and at times they had to wait for assistance.
