During a routine inspection

We spent time with two people who were receiving respite care at 95 Queens Drive at the time of our inspection. One person was able to tell us about their views and experiences of the service they received. They said, 'I like it here. It is really good.' We were told there were lots of things to do and the staff were always nice.

We spoke with a relative of a person who using the respite service at 95 Queens Drive. They were very satisfied with the care and support their son received at the service. They said 'It is very good and the staff are lovely, angels really. They keep us fully informed and it really is first class. My son really enjoys going to stay because they know what he likes doing and they support him to do those things.'

People were given lots of opportunities to get involved with how 95 Queens Drive was run. One person told us, 'I go round with the staff and we do all the fire safety checks.' Regular 'house' meetings were held. At these meetings, people using the service and the staff talked about all aspects of the running of the home and about the things people wanted to do. These meetings were centred on the people using the service and taking forward their ideas.

During a routine inspection

The people who have used the service told us that they enjoyed going to 95 Queens Drive for respite. They said they can choose what they do and staff gave them the support they need. They said that they were asked their views. Some comments made were;

"I like going, I like the staff, I do things I like when I'm there."

"It's good. The staff are nice. They ask me what I would like to do."

"I get the care I need. It's a marvellous service. I like going."

We saw completed surveys sent out by the service to find out peoples views. These showed that the people who have used the service were happy with the care and support they had received.

The five relatives spoken with told us that they were very happy with the service provided. They described the staff as respectful and considerate. They said they have been asked their views about the service at care plan reviews and through surveys. All five relatives said that appropriate care and support was given, there were opportunities to go out into the local community and to socialise and that they have never needed to complain but if they did they would know how to. Some comments made were;

"Staff are obliging and efficient, they keep us well informed. The manager runs the place to a very high standard."

"The staff are lovely and very understanding. My relative gets the care he needs. He is safe when he is there and well cared for. This gives me peace of mind."

"It's a very good service. The staff are friendly and very helpful. They keep us informed."

"We can't fault it. Our relative is happy with the service."

"Our relative is over the moon with the service. If they are happy then so am I."

We asked St Helens Council for information about how this service has operated. St Helens Council had no up to date information to provide.
